Merry Christmas – (Jujuy) Week 78

Hola Familia y Amigos!

Espero que todos ustedes hayan pasado una Navidad hermosa y que empiecen el nuevo año con éxito!

So this week had a very happy ending! Cinthia was baptized and confirmed a member of the church! This didn’t happen so easily. Satan doesn’t let anyone do these life-changing acts without tempting them to leave it all behind. Cinthia was the same.
Everything was going well until Thursday. She had talked to her family about her decision to get baptized and join the church and their response was very very negative. They did not support her at all and they were actively trying to convince her to stop listening and stop trying to come closer to Christ in this way. It was very hard for her to deal with that and in that lesson she felt very alone and scared to make the wrong decision. She was even starting to doubt the spiritual confirmations that she had received. We left the house worried but with faith that God would help her to “hush [her] fears” (Mosiah 23:28) and give her the courage that she needed.
When we went the next day to have the baptismal interview she was better and she wanted to keep meeting with us but she wanted to wait to be baptized. We invited her to have the baptismal interview anyways and during that interview the elder helped her and exhorted her “not to be frightened” and she decided to be baptized that very next day. She was able to “hush [her] fears” and exercise her faith in Christ.
I love my Savior and this IS HIS GOSPEL!
“Yea, I say unto you come and fear not, and lay aside every sin, which easily doth beset you, which doth bind you down to destruction, yea, come and go forth, and show unto your God that ye are willing to repent of your sins and enter into a covenant with him to keep his commandments, and witness it unto him this day by going into the waters of baptism.” -Alma 7:15
I love helping people and my testimony is that we must be christlike and do christlike acts because he cannot be here to do them. He would love to hush every fear and dry every tear but he won’t do it. HE NEEDS US. We need those experiences so that we may become more like Him and be ready to show to our Father that we are worthy of his glory. Oh how great is his love for us! May we help our brother feel that love through us.

One Crazy Week – Week 77 (Jujuy)

Hola Familia y Amigos!

We did a whole crapton of stuff this week.
I’ll just talk about Thursday onward.
We had splits with some elders because we had some missionaries that had to go to Salta to do some paperwork for their ID. We finished the next day, and we had to practice our choir for the Christmas conference.
Friday was the christmas conference! We had great food (stuffed chicken with potatoes and salad) and we had a fun game of white elephant with our gifts. I wanted my gift to be super Bolivian haha so I bought a white llama hair bag with a llama on it and I put a book of mormon in it but in a language called cechua (something like that) and I got 2 kilos of caramels.
The next day we had a “capilla abierta” (like an open house) in our stake center. I was with another elder on the tour and we dressed up in our baptismal clothes and we explained the doctrine of baptism and the gift of the holy ghost with the baptismal font right there. A ton of people came and it was reaaaaalllly spiritual and fun! We got like 7 references for our area even though we were like 20 minutes away! Whooo
Yesterday we went after church with the primary kids and the bishopric and we went caroling to less actives houses. It was so much fun and we really made an impact on those people!
Today we went with a brother from the ward up north! It was really fun and super beautiful. Look up Purmamarca, Tilcara, Maimara, and Humahuaca. They are awesome places!!
Cinthia is gonna get baptized on Saturday the 24th! She is such an incredible person and she is so happy to have found what she has been searching for so long!
I love the work and I love the Lord!

Week 76 – (Jujuy)

Hola Familia y Amigos!

It’s been a good week. We still have so much weird random stuff that we need to do because its December and my comp is finishing his mission, but we were able to do a lot of good this week!
Speaking of Elder Ferreira finishing his mission, there’s this program for missionaries in their last transfer called “My Plan.” It’s to help them establish goals and make plans so they keep progressing and don’t go inactive haha. The problem is that it’s all in English so I have to be the translator hahah! It takes forever and they get soooo trunky hahah!
So this Tuesday we went to Salta and had the missionary leadership counsel. It was a great meeting and it was super fun to see the missionaries that are usually so far away. We talked a lot about our teaching and how we can become better teachers to help MORE people come to the truth.
On our way back we missed our bus and we had to wait like 2 more hours and so we lost almost ALL of Tuesday and Wednesday. It was kind of hard but it had to be done haha! This is one of the crazy things that I am referring to. We lost 2 of our days this week and we still had to have good results because we have to give the good example.
Cinthia is still doing great!!!!! She is slowly receiving more light, understanding, and happiness. She wants to keep going and she’s reading the Book of Mormon a ton! She’s just eating it all up! She came to church this week again and she’s gonna get baptized on the 24th!!!
Also, we are very blessed with our members here. Our young men’s and women’s president is a super stud and they love missionary work so we are getting a ton of help from them! The only person that WE brought to church was Cinthia, but the young men and young women brought 6 more and another member brought another! Such a miracle. Some of those young people are now receiving the lessons and they are getting closer to being members of this church!
So it has been a great week! We didn’t get to do as much as we want, but the Lord blessed us!
God lives and he LOVES US!!!

(Jujuy) Week 75

Hola Familia y Amigos!

Like I said in the subject line. I never thought I’d miss working (aka visiting people and stuff like that) in the morning. Here, basically any work that we do in the morning is to show our diligence to the Lord because we hardly ever get into any houses. Basically everything gets done from 4:30 until 9:30. But now we have so much random stuff to do that we never get to and I kind of miss it haha!
This week was crazy. It rained a ton and we taught hardly any lessons so it was a bit rough. But it all ended good because we had 2 investigators in church! One man named Marcelo that is awesome. He’s just waiting to get married (it takes like 2 months in Jujuy) and baptized!
And there is Cinthia. She’s really great! Super super smart and she loves the Bible. She’s trying to find her answer about the Book of Mormon right now but she has so much real intent! We are so sure she’s going to get baptized this month!
Now I’m going to answer questions that my mom asked me last week!
1.  Are you and your companion both the zone leaders?
2How many missionaries are in your zone?
Including us 16! There are 8 areas
3.  Are there any fun touristy things to do in your new area?
IN my area no. In JUJUY yeah. There’s a ton of nature stuff and really cool places but now we can’t travel more than an hour on Pdays so we can’t really go 😦
4.  What is your apartment like in Jujuy? Small but nice. I’ll try to send pictures next week
5.  Do you eat at member’s houses very often? EVERY SINGLE DAY! IT’S LIKE FAT HEAVEN PEOPLE. And there are a ton of Bolivian people so there are a ton of different kinds of food that I never tried. Spicy food finally!!!!
6.  Does your companion speak English? Not really, he can say Utah in a really whiteboy accent. He also likes to make fun of the people who talk in Gen Conf and says “Many years ago” like an old man. He can understand quite a bit and can read out loud but forming his own sentences is hard haha
7.  How are you using the new Light the World initiative? We are doing contacts, inviting members to invite others, another area went to a radio station for our neighborhood (barrio alto comedero) and got them to anounce it a bunch (we were going to but they beat us to it) and we are doing an open house of the stake center on the 17th and that’s going to be a major theme. IT’S AWESOME!
